A couple a days ago, I plunked on the couch attempting to crank out my book. I had only penned about a quarter of a page—after several distractions and bombardments of mind—when my husband walked in and asked how my day was going.
I immediately lamented that I had barely written anything towards my daily goal and hefted my tablet in front of his eyes to prove it.
Hold on. Stop. Temporary Detour.
Yes, I said tablet. I LOVE writing my books on paper. Then I type the words into my laptop later. There’s something extraordinary about my pen flowing words onto glorious paper. So inspiring to write this way! And I LOVE my pen—Jetstream by Uni, it glides so magically over the delicious paper like a Pelican across a pond.
Good Grief! Getting carried away here!
So back to my story—
My husband looked at my lines of prose, snatched my tablet, and said, “Here, I’ll draw something to inspire you.” He whipped out a pencil, sketched for a second, and handed it back.
I took one swift look at the drawing and said, “What? Hey!”
He drew a boat with him inside.
He just laughed. He’s wanted a boat for endless years. And ever since I started writing my first novel, he pipes up all the time about how he’ll get his longed-for boat when I sell my book.
I grinned (I couldn’t help it), shook my head, and said, “Ha!”
Then I immersed myself in writing again, until my daughter leaned over and drew something on my page (she frequently does).
Her crazy shark about to chomp the boat made me laugh!
Hmm. Better show dear husband his terrible fate.
News flash! He laughed. Completely unflappable, perfectly tranquil—all mixed up with a confident smile.
Better get writing.
So tell me, tell me do — what fun experiences have you had writing?
