Help Gramma Build A Garden

While my little grandson, Gavin, was here I decided to put another garden together in an area that the water stands in when it rains. I had a load of dirt and a couple of big rocks dropped there. Papa brought in a load of gravel and Gavin jumped right in to help.
I was skeptical about the degree of help I would actually get. He is, after all, just a little guy.....

He has his own shovel and he climbed right to the top of the pile and shoveled his little heart out!

That boy moved a lot of rock! He helped me fill the wheelbarrow and didn't stop when he got tired. He tried calling his mom out to help us. She ventured out and shoveled a little, but headed back in. She tried to get Gavin to join her for an afternoon nap........ He told her that we had a garden to build and that she should help! She told him that she didn't come on vacation to work. He didn't miss a beat and replied that he didn't come on vacation to sleep!

I should have shot a "before" picture. Hind sight and all that. This is the garden that we built together. Presents a nicer entrance to my park, don't you think? He helped me split the day lilies with his trusty shovel and dug holes for all the marigolds and sedum.

I miss my little guy today. I am painting more picnic tables and I know he would help! It would be fun to have my girls here, they could all paint and then we could toss them in the pool for a clean up!
My daughter and son-in-law will be coming next month with my eight year granddaughter, Layla and her big brother, Gage. I will have to come up with a project for Layla to do. It is nice to think of Gavin every time I look at that garden. Gage is 14, so I doubt he will want to dig with me. He will be busy learning to drive in my car when he isn't in the pool. I bet he will take over my pool cleaning for me, though. I can't wait to see them. Miss my kids and their kids today!
